Marilyn photographed with her dear Aunt Ana, 1945.
Ana Lower was the few people Marilyn actually felt loved by and whom she loved, as well. Marilyn first felt truly loved at age 12 when she first moved in with Ana. Ana taught Marilyn self-love and self-worth is more important than anything, what you think about yourself is more important than how other people see you. Ana would comfort Marilyn, hug, and hold her while she cried because of how she was teased in school. Marilyn felt close and comforted by Ana’s love and care. She taught Marilyn to always believe in yourself, you can do anything you put your mind to, and encouraged Marilyn to pursue her wanted career as an actress. When she passed away on March 14th, 1948 Marilyn spoke lovingly about Ana for the rest of her life. Marilyn once said, “I once wrote a poem…about how I felt when she died. She was the only one who loved me and understood me. She showed me the path to the higher things of life…”
